"It's like going into a room of work by Rrose Selavy- Marcel Duchamp's alter -ego, the "readymade" made playfully, yet, with intelligence and meaning."Review by Pat Horner for solo exhibition.

"Fay! you are a world-class Renaissance artist - amazing inventiveness, coupled with skilled craftsmaship - a real treat!" Raymond J. Steiner of Art Times (see a PROFILE of Fay Wood by Raymond J. Steiner at http://www.arttimesjournal.com/profile/Fay_Wood_June_08/Fay_Wood.htm

Fay Wood is a painter and sculptor. Unlike the "post-studio" techniques of some contemporary artists, she uses a meticulous, process-oriented approach to her sculpture. Fay uses a variety of materials - found metal, wire, paper, paint, found wood - and a willingness to work by hand to give new life to these materials by transforming them into art.

Fay began painting by doing reverse paintings on glass with her mother who restored antiques. After attending Mass. College of Art, she continued drawing because it is one of the basics of fine art, and she loves doing it.

Recently she initiated a series ("Tapestries of my Mind") of oil paintings on canvas, using objects wrapped in interesting fabrics to show line, light, texture - expressing that the involvement in solving actual working problems is the true joy in making art.

"I was born in Egremont, Massachusetts, located in the Berkshires. After school I married, and moved 22 times in 30 years. I worked at my art in many unusual and diverse circumstances while raising a family.
In 1985, while living in New Haven, Conn., I lost my home, my studio, and most of my work to a hurricane. Since then, I've had the good fortune to have and work in a large studio, and have been able to produce larger and better pieces of work, both in painting & sculpture.
In the early 1970's I began to carve wood. Now, in addition, I have expanded my collection of materials for sculpture to the point where my work is, in one form or another, made of found objects.
I have participated in many group and invitational shows around the country and in Germany and Italy. I have had several solo exhibitions; The Proskauer Prize was given to my sculpture "Chanticleer" at the National Sculpture Society's Annual Awards Exhibition. N.Y.C. 2004. Many of my sculptures, paintings, and drawings are in private collections both in this country and Germany." Fay Wood
