Sited in a small valley (clove) between the Hudson river and the Catskill mountains, Clove Church was built in 1883. It is a simple summer church, with small stained glass panels in the arched windows, and is surrounded by terraced gardens, an open field, and a blue- stone quarry with a spectactular view of the Catskills.
Fay Wood opened Clove Church Studio in 1999. A lovely light studio area with a very high ceiling and original beams, it is a wonderful space for working on both sculpture and paintings, and provides enough room for a small gallery. We are open by appointment, or when we are hosting an exhibition, and weekends thru December 2011.
We have occassionally opened the gardens to the public, and last year (May, 2010) we invited nine local artists of national and international reputation to show their work in the garden, quarry, and field, and to display paintings (both large scale and small) and smaller sculpture in the studio. There is a video showing some of the work on site on our blog "Updates". It was a beautiful and sucessful exhibition, with the inspiring Catskill Mountains in the background. Take a look!
